Council of Ontario Drama and Dance Educators (CODE) is a small non-profit with a member-focused site built on Backdrop CMS and CiviCRM. The CiviCRM integration allows CODE to manage memberships, send out mass mailings and provide member-only access to resources.
Their old site was on Drupal 7 which had an end-of-life. We could have chosen Drupal 10 but that seems overkill for their needs. Or we could have chosen Wordpress but there would be much more work in migrating it.
We chose Backdrop CMS as a good fit for the member site. Backdrop CMS is a fork of an early version of Drupal 8, back when it still looked a lot like Drupal 7. The philosophy of Backdrop CMS is quite different from Drupal; one that is focused on a different niche: that of small business and non-profits that don't have the cash and ambition of large organizations.
