Carolinian Canada organizes a network of leaders creating a healthier landscape in the Carolinian Zone. CCC has a network of sub-sites organized on a Drupal and CiviCRM platform. The sub-sites are distinct but share the same codebase and databases so that content and data can be amalgamated on the backend.
CCC manages a popular web tool called In the Zone, which allows local leaders to sign up their properties and provide regular updates on their progress towards healthier landscapes.
Project objective
- Maintain an efficient, functional and secure website.
- Support the in-house developer in creating complex solutions which are beyond their skills.
- Manage a major upgrade from Drupal 7/CiviCRM to Drupal 10/CiviCRM.
Solution
Streamline the existing ad hoc website and ensure that all the functionality they need is retained
Freeform meets semi-regularly with the CCC developer, and communicates regularly, via our project management tools, focused on new and in-progress user stories. We maintain two versions of the website – staging and live – which the client and developers have access to. This allows for changes and improvements to be reviewed and fully tested before being deployed. Only the live site is accessible to the public, all other versions are locked down to prevent any data or emails from leaking out.
Manage a major upgrade from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10 with CiviCRM.
Freeform rebuilt the entire website from Drupal 7 to Drupal 10. The website has a lot of customizations that integrate Drupal and CiviCRM, all of which require major changes in order to continue to function. While this is underway, all functionality which is no longer necessary is being dropped.
In anticipation of the upgrade, Freeform recently rebuilt the In The Zone data structure so that it is more robust and easier to generate reports. We made properties a proper entity which would allow for users to manage multiple properties per user account. We’ve received feedback from the client that this change has made reporting much easier.
